The Ultimate Guide to Streaming With MED-EL Devices

In 2024, there are more ways than ever to stream sound to your MED-EL audio processor. We’ve got AudioStream, the AudioStream Adapter, and AudioLink for our cochlear implant users, and SAMBA 2 GO for BONEBRIDGE and VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE recipients.

But with so many choices, it can sometimes be tricky knowing which one to go for. With that in mind, we’ve put together a guide to the best streaming options for everything from hearing aids to phone calls.

Best for Music and Phone Calls: AudioStream

Man makes phone call with AudioStreamIf you want to stream music or calls directly to your ear, AudioStream is the answer. This cover slips over the battery pack of your SONNET or SONNET 2 audio processors for direct streaming using Bluetooth® Low Energy. There are no wires and no extra devices. Just high-quality sound in true stereo.

New for RONDO 3 users is the AudioStream Adapter. Like AudioStream, it offers direct, high-quality wireless streaming in true stereo. Just plug it into your RONDO 3 and start streaming.

Best for Bimodal (Hearing Aids): AudioStream

AudioStream and the AudioStream Adapter have another trick up their sleeves: Bimodal streaming. That means that if you use a hearing aid on one ear, and a SONNET or SONNET 2 on the other, you can send sound to both your ears at the same time. You’ll need a hearing aid that also supports audio streaming, along with an Android 12 phone or later. Here’s a list of tried and tested devices that support bimodal streaming.

Best for All-Round Streaming: AudioLink

Women uses AudioLink for streamingStream sound from your phone or TV, make hands-free phone calls, or use it as a remote microphone: AudioLink is our universal connectivity device that does it all!

It uses Bluetooth to stream music wirelessly from any smartphone. Clip it to your jacket for hands-free phone calls. Or connect AudioLink to a docking station to stream sound from your TV to your audio processor. The remote microphone function also makes it great for classrooms, meetings, one-on-one chats, or at the dinner table.

Best of all, AudioLink works with all our latest generation cochlear implant audio processors! Pair it with your SONNET, SONNET 2, or RONDO 3 audio processors for easy streaming.

Best for SAMBA 2 Users: SAMBA 2 GO

I'm sure you're aware that one of the most disappointing factors about med-el is how cobbled together connectivity options are. I hope you are you investigating Bluetooth LE for your next generation processors. I sure hope so this sounds very promising. Personally like the idea of the longer electrode so I'm holding out for better connectivity options. Telecoil just doesn't cut and it's getting more and more difficult to find hearing aids with a telecoil and I will be bimodal. Audiostream is too limited not in the Rondo 3 (which is something else I would prefer over the Sonnet 2) and doesn't directly stream with TV or TV streamer box.
