Our Rehab at Home for Adults series is here to give you the tips and resources you need to achieve everyday listening goals. This blog is all about achieving the first goal: To wear your audio processor every day.

Everyday Listening Goal 1: To Wear My Audio Processor(s) Every Day

Wearing your audio processors every hour you are awake is the foundation you need to progress with to the next listening goal. You can see how cochlear implant user John progressed to wearing his audio processor all day in this episode of Rehab at Home for Adults. You’ll also pick up some tips to help you reach this goal faster.

Tips for Wearing Your Audio Processor

Here are some additional tips to help you achieve the goal of wearing your audio processor(s) every day:

To Get Started

  • Wear your processor(s) all the time at home.
  • Walk around the house and make some sounds (e.g., turn the kettle on, open and close doors, ring the doorbell, etc.).
  • If any sounds are too loud, uncomfortable, or painful, tell your hearing professional at once.

As You Progress

  • Try to wear your processor(s) all the time at home and some of the time when you are out and about.
  • If any sounds are too loud, uncomfortable, or painful, tell your hearing professional at once.

Once You’re Almost There

  • Wear your processor(s) all the time you are awake—at home, when out and about, and in noisy and difficult situations.
  • If there is any reason you can’t do this (e.g., the vacuum cleaner sounds awful), tell your hearing professional.

Download a CI Use Chart to keep track of how many hours you wear your audio processor or use the AudioKey 2 – App for MED-EL Cochlear Implants (medel.com).
