Introducing SONNET 3
Be Flexible. Be Free. SONNET 3 is smaller and lighter, has a flexible earhook and a convenient touch key, is equipped with built-in direct streaming, and is even waterproof, offering you more hearing freedom and flexibility.
Superior hearing performance from MED-EL combined with a new, more ergonomic design—that’s SONNET 3, our latest behind-the-ear audio processor. Take a look at its newest features:
Smaller and Lighter
SONNET 3 is our smallest and lightest SONNET audio processor. It’s much shorter than previous SONNETS, and with less weight on your ear, you may even forget you’re wearing SONNET 3.
Convenient Touch Key
Switch your audio processor into standby mode with ease thanks to SONNET 3’s new easy-to-use touch key. Simply press it, and your SONNET 3 is powered down into standby mode. Or your audiologist can set up the touch key to switch between programs, if you prefer. In case you don’t want to use the touch key, it can simply be deactivated.
Simpler Streaming
Thanks to built-in streaming, you won’t need any additional devices to listen to your favorite songs, talk on the phone, or stream audio from your favorite movies and shows to your audio processor. SONNET 3 makes streaming simple, which means extra freedom and flexibility for you.
Ready for Rain
You can be worry free and ready for adventure thanks to SONNET 3’s waterproof design.* Now you can dance in the rain while streaming your favorite song directly to SONNET 3.
Earhook Options
SONNET 3’s new flexible silicone earhook can provide you with added comfort and security. By bending to fit your ear, it will hold on tight, no matter how active your lifestyle is. Of course, the standard earhook you know and love is also still available.
Closest to Natural Hearing
And of course, SONNET 3 offers closest to natural hearing. Experience superior hearing performance with SONNET 3. Our unique technology ensures you can hear your best in any environment and enjoy listening to life’s beautiful details. If recommended by your clinician, SONNET 3 is also available for EAS—electric acoustic stimulation.
Bimodal: The Best of Both Worlds
If you have a hearing aid in one ear and a MED-EL cochlear implant in the other, SONNET 3 can be programmed to match, no matter what brand of hearing aid you have.
New and Improved Accessories
- The new microphone covers for SONNET 3 are super easy to use and have a sleeker design that uses less plastic.
- The FineTuner Echo looks the same and has the same functions—just be sure you are using the new version with the Bluetooth® Low Energy connection indicated by the symbol on the back and on the display.
- Have peace of mind while swimming or showering: WaterWear for SONNET 3 provides extra protection and fits SONNET 3’s new, smaller size.
- SONNET 3 BabyWear is a helpful wearing option for little ears—or anyone who needs an off-the-ear option.
Other Compatible Accessories
If you currently have SONNET 2, you’ll be happy to hear that many of the accessories you already have will work with SONNET 3.
- ActiveWear can provide you with added security while you enjoy the sports you love.
- You can continue using the rechargeable batteries you have as well as any disposable zinc-air 675 batteries you still have on hand.
- And you can still use your favorite coil covers to customize your audio processor.

I am bitterly disappointed. I asked Medel if there was a model coming and got no answer. My sons spent 5 years with outdated technology just missing out on the sonnet 2. We have only just been upgraded to the sonnet 2 and my boys will have another 5 years to wait. They play sport, they like to be outside. They have always wanted something smaller and lighter to wear, something waterproof. How much easier it would be as they jungle school and radio aids to also not have to deal with additional streaming deceives. Whilst I am happy Medel continues to innovate, how thrilled do you think my children will be to hear about the ‘exciting news’ and they have missed out again by a few months.

I am writing to express my frustration regarding the recent announcement of an upgrade for the MED-EL cochlear implant. My son received his implant on July 26, with the understanding that he would be eligible for an upgrade within three months if one were to be released. One of the key reasons he chose MED-EL over other companies was the favorable upgrade policy, which he believed would allow him to schedule the surgery knowing that there were rumors of an improved model. However, we have now been informed that there is a hard cut-off date of September 1 for upgrade eligibility, leaving us feeling disheartened. This seems inconsistent with the original assurance provided to us about the upgrade policy. My son is eager to benefit from the latest technology, and I believe it is only fair that he is given the opportunity to do so without being penalized by this arbitrary deadline. I urge you to reconsider this policy. Your support in this matter would mean a great deal to our family. Thank you for your attention to this issue. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, Kathryn

I have a hearing aid in one ear and a MED-EL cochlear implant (Sonnet 2) in the other. That didn't work well with the bimodel streaming because I used separate apps for Cochlear and Hearing aid. They were not simply synchronised. I heard 2 sounds one after the other. Ultimately I still use the Artone 3 max - bluetooth via telecoil. Has this fixed and tested in Sonnet 3? Can I use single app to use both?

Hi there! I've been looking into upgrading my SONNET 1s into SONNET 2s, and admittedly I've had some issues with not really having any Medical insurance currently. I was already roughly estimating I may need to spend $6-7K on a upgrade to two SONNET 2s, but I am considering seeing if there's a way for me to upgrade to SONNET 3s instead, or have a temporary hearing solution until it releases. May I inquire as to an estimation to how much SONNET 3 would cost? It would help a lot to figuring out my options to get back to hearing as soon as possible. for some context, my SONNET 1s have stopped working a few months ago, and I don't really know what the issue is, but me moving to a new household in 2020 has kind of thrusted my knowledge of my medical history into disarray. I'm already doing what I need to do to get the medical stuff fixed and am still waiting on medicaid to return back to my application, but I've already accepted that if I want to get my hearing fixed, I'll most likely have to pay out of pocket for Cochlear upgrades.

Hi Craig, thank you for your question. AudioLink XT supports the ASHA protocol that makes it possible to bimodally stream to SONNET 3 and a ASHA compatible hearing aid. Therefore, make sure your hearing aid is ASHA compatible. Kind Regards, Giulia
